No! Damn you, PlayStation Underground demo disc! Tim

File Under: Games -> PlayStation 2

Crap, crap, crap... So I get home from winter break after a long week of finals and discover a new PlayStation 2 demo disc had come for me in the mail. "Sweet," I think, "I've been wanting to try out Viewtiful Joe." Like anyone would, I go ahead and do so, and sort of enjoy myself. Then, when I'm done, I quit out to the PS2 system screen. At this point, my stomach sinks. I suddenly remember an e-mail I received a month ago from Sony warning that playing the Viewtiful Joe demo will erase your memory card.

"Oh crap," I think, "I'm screwed." So I check my memory card through the System Browser, and I'm greeted with an absolutely wonderful message informing me that my memory card is unformatted, and would I like to format it now? "NO, DAMN YOU! I DON'T WANT TO FORMAT, I WANT MY SAVES!"

Aarrrggghhh! I bought my PS2 on launch day! That's over four years worth of accumulated saved games! Gone! All gone! *Sigh* I guess it's time to go beat Ico again.... Hm, I suppose there are worse things.

Update: Apparently, Sony has a special promotion going on for those who had their memory cards erased by this demo disc. If you call up the SCEA support line and mention the problem, they'll give you a list of free games to choose from. If you then send in your demo disc with a letter indicating the game you want, they'll go ahead and send it to you. I think I'll go ahead and get Jak II, since I never picked it up before. I guess it doesn't really make up for losing four years of saved games, but at least it's something.
